Evidence for multiple modes of uranium immobilization by ananaerobic bacterium
Microbial reduction of hexavalent uranium has been studied widely for its potential role in bioremediation and immobilization of soluble U(VI) in contaminated groundwater. More recently, some microorganisms have been examined for their role in immobilization ofU(VI) via precipitation of uranyl phosphatemineralsmediated bymicrobial phosphate release, alleviating the requirement for long-term red...
متن کاملGenome Sequence of the Alkaline-Tolerant Cellulomonas sp. Strain FA1
We present the genome of the cellulose-degrading Cellulomonas sp. strain FA1 isolated from an actively serpentinizing highly alkaline spring. Knowledge of this genome will enable studies into the molecular basis of plant material degradation in alkaline environments and inform the development of lignocellulose bioprocessing procedures for biofuel production.
متن کاملPRODUCTION, RELEASE AND THERMAL CHARACTERIZATION OF CELLULOLYTIC ENZYME FROM CELLULOMONAS sp. STRAIN "0"
Cellulase production by a Cellulomonas sp., isolated in 1985 from forest humus soil along the border of the Caspian Sea in Iran, was investigated. This strain secreted endo-and exo-cellulases in the culture medium, but some of the enzymes produced remained cell membrane bound. Cell bound enzymes were released by various treatments. The highest amount of endo-glucanase (up to 95%) and exo-gl...
متن کاملDraft Genome Sequence of Cellulolytic and Xylanolytic Cellulomonas sp. Strain B6 Isolated from Subtropical Forest Soil
Cellulomonas sp. strain B6 was isolated from a subtropical forest soil sample and presented (hemi)cellulose-degrading activity. We report here its draft genome sequence, with an estimated genome size of 4 Mb, a G+C content of 75.1%, and 3,443 predicted protein-coding sequences, 92 of which are glycosyl hydrolases involved in polysaccharide degradation.
متن کاملReductive immobilization of uranium(VI) by amorphous iron sulfide.
Batch experiments were used to evaluate the reductive immobilization of hexavalent uranium (U(VI)) by synthesized, amorphous iron sulfide (FeS) in the anoxic environment. The tests were initiated by spiking 168.0 microM U(VI) to 0.18 g/L FeS suspensions under a CO2-free condition with pH varied from 5.99 to 10.17. The immobilization rate of U(VI) was determined by monitoring the changes of aque...
